3 Reasons to Take “Day After” Wedding Photos!

Happy Wedding Wednesday, I’m so excited to finally share these breathtaking photos of my Bhldn Heaton gown with you from Cabo to prove to you that it is 100% worth it to take “day after” wedding photos especially if you do a destination wedding! Blake and I got married in Cabo this past March and while I would have liked to have taken these photos on the same day as our wedding, I knew we’d be pressed for time. On top of that, I knew I couldn’t steal Blake away from having fun with his friends before the ceremony and I was also sure that we’d both be more than ready to head up to the reception after family photos. Sure enough, I was right! Don’t get me wrong, we definitely got plenty of photos on our wedding day, but for our Cabo ceremony, we opted out of a “first look” and we only had about 15 minutes alone after the ceremony to take bride and groom photos on the beach, which I will be sharing with you in weeks to come. Until then, I have these amazing “day after” photos from my photographers Lainey Reed and Kirsten Waguespack.

Gown & Accessory Details

As for my gown, I’m sure you noticed that it’s not the same gown I got married in, but I found this whimsical off the shoulder dress at Bhldn and absolutely fell in love with the fit and romantic lace details. Fortunately, Bhldn was so kind to gift me the gown to share with you all. For size reference, I’m wearing the size 0.

My Keely stud earrings by Kendra Scott and I wore them to both my New Orleans ceremony and my Cabo ceremony.

Both of my Henri Daussi wedding bands are from Diamonds Direct, which I will be sharing on blog post on soon!

My diamond bracelets are from Lee Michaels and my “B” necklace is from Lola James.

Also, in case you’re wondering, I’m wearing flip flops under my dress for these photos. There was no way that I was going to frolic around the sand in heels for the pictures.

3 Reasons to Take “Day After” Wedding Photos!

  1. 9 times out of 10, you won’t have time to capture as many photos and unique poses of just the two of you on your wedding day as you’d like. This may not matter to some of you, but I personally always dreamed of capturing amazing photos on a breathtaking cliff with a gorgeous backdrop prancing around in a flowy gown, which is nearly impossible to do on the day of your wedding. So we I decided to carve out a little time from our vacation in Cabo to make this happen. When you have a full hour without any stress, you’ll have much more time to get creative with poses. This shoot allowed us to capture the magical photos I always dreamed of and it was worth every second and cent.

2) It’s great alternative to a “first look” with the bride and groom. If you want to keep things traditional and opt out of a first look on the wedding, but you still want to make sure you get photos together in the natural daylight, I highly recommend scheduling day after wedding photos. I’m sure you’re thinking ‘why not just take them in between the ceremony and the reception.’ Well friends, because after you’ve taken photos with the whole wedding party and every aunt, uncle cousin and grandparent, you’re over taking photos and you’re ready to party at the reception with everyone else. During the quick 15 minutes we spent taking photos on the beach, Blake and I could see all of our friends drinking and having fun on the terrace and that’s all we wanted to do.

If you aren’t able to snap some “day after” wedding photos at home, I highly recommend scheduling a photo shoot during your honeymoon especially if you’re traveling somewhere beautiful. Trust me! You won’t regret it!

3) Let’s be real here….this is the most money we women have and ever will spend on a dress! So don’t you want to document every little detail of it as well as your rocking bridal bod that you worked so hard to get. C’mon ladies, you know you’re going to want to be able to look back at that!

Last but not least, who in their right mind is going risk ruining their wedding gown right before the reception by climbing a cliff or dragging their gown through the rocks and water to get the perfect shot. Not me! I suggest waiting until you are down with gown before trashing it in the sand, rocks and water.

Both of my Henri Daussi wedding bands are from Diamonds Direct, which I will be sharing on blog post on soon!

The below photos are by other photographer Kirsten who also attended my Cabo wedding. I brought both Kirsten and Lainey with me to Cabo from Louisiana to to help me capture all of the wedding festivities throughout the weekend on both camera and the iPhone. I love seeing both of their perspectives and camera angles. They did such an incredible job and I highly recommend both of them for weddings and couples shoots.

Wedding Wednesday: My Top 10 Wedding Shoes

Happy Wedding Wednesday everyone! Maybe I’m biased because I’m a shoe addict, but I don’t think you need to be married or engaged to know that wedding shoe shopping goes right up there next to wedding dress shopping! In fact, for some, it might even beat out dress shopping! Before you call me crazy, hear me out….1) Who doesn’t drool over stunning embellished wedding shoes! 2) It doesn’t matter how much you’ve been dieting or working out, you’re still always be the same shoe size. 4) They make great shelf decor in your closet. 3) Last but not least, you can’t re-wear your wedding gown to a special event, but you can always re-wear your wedding shoes!

Now that you understand my love for shoes, today I’m sharing my top 10 pairs of wedding shoes. I obviously didn’t wear all of the shoes featured in today’s post to my wedding ceremonies, but I did find opportunities to wear them to our wedding parties and showers. Also, some of them might just be sitting pretty on my shoe shelves still waiting to be worn because I’m ridiculous like that. LOL

I’ll start by showing you my absolute top favorite shoe that I wore to my New Orleans family wedding ceremony.

  1. The Badgley Mischka Selena Strappy Sandal! These heels sit right at the top of my list because I love the embellished jewel details. Also the criss cross straps and the height of the heel could flatter anyone’s legs and feet. People warned me that they snag the inside of your dress, but who cares about the inside of the dress. No one even sees that! You just have to be careful while you’re walking though so that you don’t trip if the dress gets caught. I didn’t have any problems though!

2) The Nude Ankle Strap Heel | Secondly, I highly recommend getting a pair of nude ankle strap heels and not just for weddings, but just for life in general. I have gotten such a good use out of my nude ankle strap heels that I buy a fresh new pair every year because I know I’ll wear them to the ground! See the full post here—>Engagement Party Ideas

3) The Tampa Heel | This shoe is perfect for everyone who loved the first pair I listed minus a half inch and a little less strap action. It’s equally as beautiful as the first pair, but slightly less expensive.

4) The Cara Crystal Embellished Flat Sandal  | This jeweled sandal is great for tall brides who don’t need the extra and height and would rather be comfortable all day long. Also, it’s perfect for beach weddings or for brides to change into after the ceremony.

5) The Badgley Mischka Katrina | The Katrina heel was made for the boho bride with it’s intricate sparkling rhinestones, dangling bead details and the lace-up tassel tie closure. I wore these shoes with a boho cape dress for my “day after” photos and also while in Cabo. See the full post here—> 3 Tips for Choosing Wedding Bands

6) The Annette Feather Heels | I’m not gonna lie… these are some pretty “fly” shoes! These show stopping feather heels were made for the bride who wants to make a statement at her wedding. Plus they’re super cute for other occasions besides weddings. You don’t need to be a bride to rock these killer heels!

7) The Florence Embellished Bow Pump | Have you ever seen a more dainty and feminine shoe? These sheer embellished pumps by Bella Belle are the essence of bridal shoe beauty.

| Shop Sheer Pumps |

 8) The Tess Peep Toe Sandal | That’s right… blue soled shoes! Have you ever seen a more adorable way to incorporate “something blue” into your wedding day.

9) The Bridal Bootie | No, not that kind of booty! I’m talking about sheer peep toe booties for the edgy bride. I didn’t get this style for myself, but I know a few gal who could really rock these!

10) The Day After Shoe | Believe me when I say that after a full day in heels and night of crazy partying and dancing, your feet are going to be sore as hell! In fact, my whole body was sore from dancing! However, tired feet won’t stop you from wanting to continue celebrating with your friends at your farewell brunch or trying to make it through the airport to your honeymoon. So make sure to invest in some comfy shoes that you will get you through the next day even if that just means a pair of slippers at the hotel!

Everyday Slip-Ons For Spring

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. We had the most beautiful weather over the weekend in Louisiana so we spent most of our Easter holiday doing casual outdoor activities like boiling crawfish and barbecuing.

Today I’ve partnered with Born Shoes to share my new casual, everyday slip-ons for spring. I just can’t get enough of these nude slip-on mules because not only are they comfortable and breathable, but they’re also super cute too. The perforated woven detail puts them right on trend for this season and the nude color goes with everything. However, I also love the blush color too and as well as this knit fabric sneaker by Born Footwear that is equally as comfortable as the Cameo.

I paired my Born Cameo mules with some high waist ankle jeans and tie front top for a cute transitional look into spring, but I also like wearing them with boyfriend jeans and cutoff shorts. How would you style these nude mules?

I’ve been carrying my Barrington Gifts St. Anne tote a lot lately because I’ve been trying to work on my laptop outdoors at coffee shops and cafes as much as I can while the spring weather is so beautiful.

Get ready to see this perforated mule trend everywhere!

3 Tips For Choosing Wedding Bands

Hey everyone, have you ever thought about doing bridals after your wedding as opposed to before your wedding so can you invite your new spouse to join you in the photo shoot? I know these things are usually called “day after” photos, but let’s face it…who looks photo-ready after a night of partying. So why not schedule something fun with your photographer and new hubby after you’ve had some time to recover? Plus you’ll both get to show off your new rings. Speaking of rings, today I’m sharing the details on our wedding bands from Lee Michaels.

Blake and I both went to Lee Michaels to pick out our bands together. Blake said he would have rather gotten a new watch, but I explained that it didn’t really work like that! LOL! I was super excited about creating a stack of bands to wear with my engagement ring because who doesn’t want more bling! I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, but when I sat down to try on rings with the sales associate, I realized I had no clue what I was doing. Thankfully the Lee Michaels fine jewelry expert was super helpful and I ended up picking out two bands I loved. It only took me like two hours and 8,594,752 bands to find them! I’m kidding, but the sales associate was super nice and let me try on as many as I wanted to as many times as I wanted to and thankfully they had such a great selection for me to choose from! I ended up picking one yellow gold infinity band and a second yellow gold band without prongs to complement it.

Blake, on the on the other hand, only tried on two before making a final decision on a slender “barely there” gold band.

3 Tips for Choosing Wedding Bands:

  1. Do your research first! Search the style of your engagement ring on Pinterest to find photos of what your diamond pairs well with. Once you find styles you like, look up the different designers at the jewelry store you plan to purchase your bands from so you know the exact styles you want try on.

2) Make an appointment at your local jewelry store! We went to Lee Michaels because they carry a lot of the styles and designers I like.

3) Try on additional styles! I know I said to go in with a plan and I do strongly suggest that, but you’d be surprised at what styles you’ll fall in love with once you actually try them on!

Bonus Tip: Don’t make your final decision at your first appointment. Take photos of all the options you love next your engagement ring and sleep on it. It also doesn’t hurt to get a second opinion! Share the photos with the people who know you best and I think you’ll find that they’ll love your first choice too and even if they don’t, you’ll defend the style you truly want.

Funny story: When Blake first got his ring, he wasn’t too excited about wearing it because he wasn’t used to seeing jewelry on himself, but now he actually really likes it and even wears it to sleep! LOL

This is what bridal bouquet dreams are made of.  Kim Starr Wise killed it with this loose, asymmetrical bouquet that I requested for my shoot with Blake.
