A Whimsical Gender Neutral Baby Shower
Hey everyone, I recently lost track of what day it is since this crazy quarantine began, but I thought we could all use some pretty distractions today so I’m sharing all of my baby shower details. If you unfortunately had to cancel your baby shower due to the recent world crisis circumstances, my heart goes out to you and I hope you’re able to reschedule and celebrate later. Your baby shower host could even throw you a “sip’n see” party once everything settles down and it’s safe for the baby to be around friends and family. In case you aren’t familiar with sip’n see parties, it’s basically when you have the shower after the baby is born so everyone gets to see your new bundle of joy while showering you with gifts. Speaking of gifts, be sure to check out my top baby products here—> My Top Baby Registry Picks
Scroll through this post to see m whimsical gender neutral baby shower details!

My Outfit: Sequin & Tulle Maternity Dress (wearing sz 6 —comes in a few other colors) <—For size reference: Before pregnancy I wore size smalls and still usually order smalls now, but my bust has gone from a small 32B to a full 36C so that is why I sized up to the 6 | Nude Ankle Strap Heels | Avi Hoop Earrings In Rose Gold | Name Necklace | Amiya Cuff Bracelets
Cake Table Details: Gold and Marble Pedestal Stand | Three Tier Sweet Stand | Gold Frame found at dollar store & sign from Etsy | Wooden Block Letters (spray painted gold) from Hobby Lobby | Ribbon c/o Paper White Collections | Gold Cake Knife set (old from World Market)
Another option is for your original host to reach out to all of the invited guests and let them know that she’s decided it’s best to throw you a virtual shower. In this case, everyone would have your presents sent directly to your home before the baby arrives so you can still get everything you need. Plus I know your friends and family still want you to feel special during this time especially with the given circumstances. If you want to take it a step further, you could even send little videos of yourself opening gifts to family members when you receive them in the mail.

I found this rattan chair at World Market and have used used it at multiple other baby showers and parties too.
I almost feel guilty sharing all of my shower details with you at this time, but again I know you all enjoy pretty distractions from the real world so without further ado, here we go! My mom and mother-in-law threw me a family shower, in which I could have invited my friends to, but I decided to keep friends and family separate so I would have equal time to enjoy with the both them. With that being said, I decided to throw my “friend” baby shower myself and not because my friends weren’t willing to host one for me, but because I love planning events and parties. So it was like a treat for me. I thrive on designing and planning plus I had the assistance of Paper White Collections who helped me come up with the most beautiful color scheme.
Before we came up with the color scheme we met to brainstorm ideas and since I had already booked the venue (Maison Lafitte) in the previous year, we knew exactly what kind of vibe we wanted: the perfect combo of glam and whimsical while still staying within that gender neutral bracket. Initially, we thought about doing a full-on rainbow theme, but then we decided to narrow it down to just a few colors and create a softer ombre look. I ended up choosing a beautiful boho invitation design from Minted with the colors: gold, blue, green and peach so we decided to use those as our base colors. The Paper White Collections team went to market with those colors in mind to find the perfect table settings and decor for the tablescape. They were also able to hand select the colors of all of the linens and ribbons that matches with my invitations.
Tablescape c/o Paper White Collections
Then I reached out to Moonbeam Fleurs and Animated Art Balloon to discuss the two big balloon and floral installations. We sent a photo of the invitation as well as color swatches to both of them so everyone would be on same page. Usually when I work with Tabitha from Animated Art Balloon, we design a fun a balloon arch together, but this time we decided to do something we’ve never done before. Ashley from White Paper Collections had a floating balloon garland installation at her shower and I loved the idea so much that we decided to recreate it with my soft ombre color scheme.
As for the crescent floral installation, I had saved a photo of one from a wedding that I saw on Instagram and Whitney from Moonbeam Fleurs was the perfect florist to recreate it. She also arranged all of the flowers on the dining table as well the flowers that were incorporated into the balloon garland. The floral crescent installation was really important to me because I always like to have a beautiful designated spot to take photos in front of and it worked wonderfully as you can see in the pictures below.
Signs and Welcome Decor: I found all of my signs on Etsy and printed them at local printing shop. I framed them using gold frames from the dollar store and Hobby Lobby that I keep in a decor box in my garage.
Glo Event Decor installed these drapes for me at the entrance of Maison Lafitte, which also worked as a great spot for photos in the afternoon once the sun moved over.
Food: Fortunately, I didn’t have to think much about food because Maison Lafitte offers catering. I decided to go with a seated lunch menu as well as some passed appetizers, cheeseboards and bottomless mimosas.
Cake & Cookies: My cake design was supposed to look a little different as it was supposed to look like a blue agate stone, but it still tasted delicious. The cookie designs turned out absolutely beautiful. I made sure to send her a photo of the invitation so she could create cookies using the same colors and she even made a cookie looked exactly like the invitation designs.
I found these wooden block block letters at Hobby Lobby and spray painted them gold. I do this for every shower I host so they can be used in the baby’s room as decor.
Not only do decorative cookies make great desserts and table decor, but they’re also perfect to use as shower favors too.
Diaper Raffle, Favors & Guest Book: I’ve been working with GiGi New York for 8+ years now and we have designed three different handbags together as well as a special wedding collection when I got married. So they of course wanted to be a part of this life milestone too by providing me with a Teddy Tote to give away during my shower for the diaper raffle, leather embossed pens as the favors and personalized leather children’s book to use the guest book. I feel so fortunate that I was gifted those items because of our relationship, but I understand that may not be within everyone’s budget. So if there’s one you thing you can do, I highly recommend purchasing one of their personalized leather children’s books to use as the guest book because it’s a special keepsake that the child can keep forever with sweet notes from their friends and family.
For the diaper raffle, we mentioned on the back of the invitation for guests to bring a pack of diapers any size for a chance to win a special prize. This obviously was NOT required of guests, but most of them participated knowing there was prize involved. At my family shower, we had guests bring books with hand written notes inside of them instead to bringing cards.
At the end of the shower, I put all of the decorative cookies right next to the favors by the entrance so guests wouldn’t forget to take one home.
Gifts: I decided to do an open gift concept where we put the the gifts on display using a small rolling rack for clothes and baskets with ribbon to make the diapers and baby products looks decent. I did this at my friend shower because friends our age usually don’t have any desire to sit there and watch you open presents for a whole hour. Also, I don’t know about you, but I hate opening gifts in front of people. How did we keep track who the gift came from you ask? My friend wrote down the names and items as people walked in and handed the the gifts so it was very easy to do.
All of the baskets are available at At Home Stores and the clothing rack you can find here—> Children’s White & Gold Rack

Second Trimester Recap
Hey friends, I recently shared my first trimester recap post and as promised today I’m sharing my second trimester recap post. As I mentioned in my last post I was sick all the way into my second trimester, but then finally after week 20 I could at least get through the day without throwing up so that was nice. LOL The second trimester is also when you start to get your energy back and you actually have a cute bump to show off. So plenty of great things to look forward to in the second trimester. Scroll through this post to read through my second trimester experience as I answer all of the questions you submitted.
Outfit Details: Knot Long Sleeve Velvet Rib Midi Dress (wearing sz S) |RAYE Conquest Mule in Pale Gold (also love this pair) | Similar heart earrings here & here | Personalized Door mat | Christmas trees from At Home
Q1.) What were some of your beauty product essentials during the second trimester and what was your skincare routine?
A1.) I started using Bio Oil all over my stomach around week 13 because I was already starting to show a little and I wanted to prevent stretch marks as much as I could. Here is the mistake I made… I didn’t use it on my hips and thighs and I should have because that’s where I ended up getting the stretch marks. So when you start using the Bio Oil, be sure to apply it all over or at least the main areas that tend to grow during pregnancy.
As for my skincare routine, I continued to use Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel because it’s super gentle on the skin. Whenever I had more intense breakouts I used Neutrogena Clear Pore Facial Cleanser / Face Mask. I even used that on my chest and back. After cleansing my face, I would moisturize with either Confidence in a Cream Hydrating Moisturizer or hydrating day & night cream. I also like using the Tula purifying face cleanser as a gently cleanser too. On top of those products, I used some Alastin skincare products recommended by my board certified dermatologist. Be sure to get all of your skincare products approved by your doctor.
As for SPF, I use Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection SPF 50 Face Shield. My dermatologist told me that it is pregnancy safe.

Q2.) When did you first feel kicks?
A2.) Everyone told me that you don’t start feeling kicks until after 16 weeks and that I would only feel flutters at first. However, I never felt “flutters” instead I immediately started feeling kicks every so often around 12/13 weeks. Only I could feel them though and they were far and few. I really started feeling intense kicks around 18 weeks. The first time Blake was ever able to feel the baby kick was around 23 weeks. I remember we came home from seeing a musical at the Saenger theater in New Orleans and the baby was kicking so hard so it was the perfect time for him to feel.
Q3.) What did you put on your registry?
A3.) I have a whole blog post on that here—> Haute Off The Rack Baby Registry Picks
Q4.) Did you have any suspicions that you might have gestational diabetes?
A4.) Yes, I really didn’t know much about gestational diabetes before I was officially diagnosed at 28 weeks, but I would have weird things happen to me. Sometimes I would suddenly feel faint and dizzy and would have to lay down and drink water and eat something to avoid passing out. Also, my heart would start beating really fast and I would feel super light-headed. I read that it was normal to feel this way during the second trimester, but it was still strange to me and although I don’t know if those symptoms actually had anything to do with gestational diabetes, but I also wasn’t surprised when I was diagnosed.

Q5.) What workouts do you recommend for second trimester?
A5.) This is a question I would ask your doctor considering that everyone’s pregnancy is different, but I doubt any doctor would be against daily walks and stretching. I went to the gym all the way through 18 weeks even when I felt sick but then the craze of holidays got the best of me and I got lazy. However, I made sure to walk about two miles almost everyday. I could probably do a better job of stretching though.
Q6.) How quickly did your body start to change in the second trimester?
A6.) I feel like I really started showing around 15/16 weeks because I’m so petite and have such a short torso. I’m only 5’1. My bra size also drastically changed during the second trimester too.
Q7.) What are some outfits that can transition from regular wear to maternity?
A7.) I share bump friendly looks on my Instagram all the time and even have a #bumpfriendly highlight right beneath my bio, but I have a blog post featuring all of those looks and will link to it here as soon as it goes live.

Power Mama Maternity Shaper | I highly recommend these maternity spanx to wear under all of your body con dresses to help smooth everything out and give your bump a nice shape.
Mamasana Live In Maternity Ankle Leggings | I own 4 pairs of these maternity leggings because I wear them so often especially when I go walking each day. They have worked since the beginning of pregnancy and are said to fit until the end. So far they still work great and I am just under 35 weeks.
Women’s Beautifully Soft Notch Collar Nightgown | Once you officially start showing, your regular pajama pants and shorts aren’t so comfy anymore. I love wearing these cotton nightgowns to bed because they super comfortable and are nice and roomy. I also don’t like anything pressing against bladder since I already have to get up so many times throughout the night to use the bathroom.
Lavender Foaming Bath | I tried to avoid warm baths and showers at all costs during the first 20 because I would get so nauseous and throw up after so I was super glad once I got the sickness under control and was able to relax in the bath again. The L’occitance Lavender Foaming Bath is my absolute favorite bubble bath and the best way to wind down in the evening especially during the cold months.
Thank you so much for reading about my second trimester. Stay tuned for more pregnancy blog posts including my registry, maternity and bump friendly outfit ideas and the third trimester. Also, feel free to email me with any questions that I didn’t address.

First Trimester Recap
Hi everyone, and wow! I can’t believe it has taken me this long to write about the first trimester of my pregnancy. I’m already 34 weeks now with only 6 weeks left. Although, I do have to give myself somewhat of a break considering I was sick all the way through week 20 and vomited everyday until week 18. The first trimester and a half was pretty brutal and I actually still get sick if I don’t take my medicine. Yes, that’s right I had to resort to medicine. It’s not something I wanted to do, but I had to in order to function on a daily basis. I don’t mean for all of this to sound negative, but I’m just trying to give it you straight and you all have known about my pregnancy for a while. We’re of course so excited and grateful to welcome Baby P into our family, but today I’m going to answer some of the not-so-glamorous questions about the first 12-14 weeks of pregnancy. Don’t worry, it’s not all bad! The first trimester was also filled with happiness and excitement too, but without further ado, here we go…
Q1.) Were you trying and what was your TTC journey like?
A1.) Yes, we were trying to conceive. I got off of birth control in April right before we left for Hawaii. I waited until this point because I knew that if I got sick, I did not want to be sick on a cruise ship in Hawaii for 12 days. Once I knew we were ready to start actively trying, I started taking prenatal gummy vitamins that Krystal from A Pinch of Lovely suggested. I had been on birth control for 10 years and before that I had a super irregular period so I figured it would my body some time to get acclimated. When we returned from Hawaii I started using daily Wondfo ovulation test strips to better understand my cycle. I know they recommend to wait to start taking the test on the 12th day of your cycle, but the tests were inexpensive and came in a pack with so many that I figured why not take one everyday that I’m not on my period to better understand the line on the test strip.

The following month in July, I for sure thought I was pregnant because my period was 10 days late and I was on day 45 of my cycle. See I told you! I have a super irregular cycle. Turns out I wasn’t! I don’t think I’ll ever really know why my cycle was so long that month because I ended up getting pregnant the following month in August. We realize that we are so fortunate that it worked so quickly for us because I know that not everyone has that same kind of journey. I will say though that I really do think that doing the ovulation test strips everyday and double checking them with the Clearblue Ovulation sticks on the days that my app said we were most likely to conceive really helped.
I also think it helped to listed my friends TTC journey stories too because there so many things I didn’t realize about our bodies.
Q2.) Did you use an app to track ovulation?
A2.) Yes, I used the Ovia app to track my ovulation and now I use the Ovia Pregnancy app for baby updates and information.
Outfit: Similar Sequin Dress | Embellished Clear Shoes | Lightweight Gold Hoops
I was actually drinking sparkling cider here, but let everyone else think it was wine!
Q3.) What is the first pregnancy symptom you noticed?
A3.) I took a digital pregnancy test at the earliest day possible so I knew right away, but I will say that morning I felt strange when I woke up almost like I was on the verge of getting a cold. Soon after that, my boobs were really sore and my back and chest started breaking out. Funny story: I actually took a pregnancy test 9 days after my positive ovulation test even though they say to wait until 12 days after and I didn’t see a line. Then I took another one the next day, which was 10 days post positive ovulation test and I got a positive pregnancy test on August 8. I was so excited, but I also just had this intuitive feeling that was pregnant even before I took the test.
Side note: I really like using the Ovia app, but my “most fertile” days were slightly off in the app and that’s not necessarily the app’s fault because remember I mentioned that I’m super irregular, but that’s exactly why the ovulation tests strips were so helpful.
No one believed me at first! Watch the full video here—>—>Baby P Announcement and Gender Reveal
Q4.) How did you tell Blake?/How did you tell your parents?
A4 part 1.) If I could go back I would have done something way cuter, but since I found out 10 DPO (aka about 4 weeks) I was still nervous and decided to just show him all of the pregnancy tests I took. He didn’t even know what they meant when I showed because he didn’t understand the lines. LOL If I could do it over, I would have wrapped up a mini tennis racket and ball because Blake plays tennis and I would have included a little note (from the baby) that said “Can’t wait to learn from you…DAD!”
A4 part 2.) You can see in this blog post that we told our parents while taking family pictures during my birthday lunch at my mom’s house. We waited until 9 weeks on my birthday to tell any of our friends and family just so we could see the doctor first and have everything confirmed. No one tells you about the waiting game during those first few weeks. I found out that I was pregnant on Thursday, August 8th with an at-home pregnancy test and I didn’t even tell Blake until two days later because it almost didn’t feel real and the test line looked so faint. I wasn’t sure if he’d even believe me. Haha! You start to question if it could be maybe be a false positive because you aren’t feeling any symptoms yet. Five days after finding out that we were pregnant we went on a trip to Bermuda. At first I was nervous to go because I hadn’t seen the doctor yet, but it turned out to be the best trip to kick off this journey together and also served as a great distraction. I was only 5 weeks at that point so I wasn’t really feeling anything at all. See more from our trip to Bermuda here—> Our Secret Babymoon at the Hamilton Princess Bermuda
See the full video of how we told all of our friends and family on youtube here—>Baby P Announcement and Gender Reveal
Q5.) Are you going to find out the gender?
A5.) As we all know now, yes! I’m super impatient so we actually got the blood test at 10 weeks to find out the gender and threw the gender reveal party when I was 13 weeks. My assistant and BFF were the only ones who knew for 3 weeks and had to keep it from me. They had to know so they could order the correct confetti cannons for the party. We invited all of our closest friends and family. See the full post on the baby gender reveal party here—>Baby Gender Reveal Party Decor & Details
Q6.) How do you cope with morning sickness?
A6.) Morning sickness was probably the hardest part for me during the first trimester and well into the second trimester too. They should really call it all day sickness because I was nauseous all day long even after I threw up. Speaking of throwing up, I vomited every day from week 7 to week 18. I started feeling symptoms just before I reached 6 weeks. My boobs felt sore and even just the thought of healthy food made me nauseous. I pretty much only ate noodle soup, Chick-fil-a, chips and crackers. How I made it through fashion week in New York at 8 weeks is beyond me. I threw up a couple times and felt super nauseas with intense heartburn, but somehow I managed to rally and make it to all of the events.
As far as how I coped with morning sickness, that’s a loaded question because nothing made it go away, I just made it through somehow. Honestly, the only thing that kind of helped me was medicine, but I still threw up through the medicine too. I even tried everything from smelling peppermint oil, resting, eating crackers before I even got out of bed, ginger candies, ginger tea, you name it! I actually still have to take Bonjesta each night to get through the day. Something else that helped me cope with the morning sickness besides the medicine was knowing that it meant my body was working hard to make a baby. There is research that proves that morning sickness means a healthy baby and the thought of that made me feel better.
One more thing I’ll leave you with…. During every tough situation during pregnancy, I always try to find the silver lining and I know you’re thinking… Duh! The baby! But he’s not here yet so I try to look for something in that moment to help me get through it. One night I couldn’t stop throwing up. I couldn’t even keep water down and it got so bad that I started throwing up stomach bile. I just kept crying and crying in between vomiting because I felt so weak and helpless. And Blake just sat there with me on the bathroom floor in the middle of the night comforting me. And in that terrible, awful moment I felt like the luckiest girl in the world because I’m a grown ass adult and yet Blake still chose to sit there with me on the bathroom floor all night when he had work the next morning. And I knew that if he was willing to just be there with me even though there was nothing he could do to help me, that he was going to be the most amazing dad. So even though I look at that night as one of the worst nights of my first trimester, it was also one of the best because it showed me that I’m not in this alone. And I’ll always have him by my side when things get tough. Not because he has to be, but because he wants to be.
Me and B with our moms (aka soon-t0-be-grandmas)
Q7.) When are you due?
A7.) My due date is April 17, 2020.
Q8.) Who is your OB?
A8.) Our OB is Dr. Hymel in Covington, LA and she has actually delivered all of our best friends’ babies over the past two years. Fun fact: all of those babies turned out to be boys. Our baby boy will #8 out of our friends. Also my nurse practitioner is our good friend Casey Barnes who we’ve known since high school. It’s been such a blessing to have her as our NP because she’s always happy to answer my questions on and off the clock.
Q9.) What prenatal vitamins are you taking?
A9.) While we were trying to conceive I took these Vitafusion Prenatal Gummy. Once I found out I was pregnant I switched to One A Day Prenatal for the iron, but after I learned that Ritual prenatal vitamins were vegan and easy on the stomach, I started taking those and really like them. Their prenatal includes 12 essential nutrients with the highest quality ingredients your body can actually absorb. I love the no-nausea capsule design so I can take my in the morning or night. Other prenatal vitamins made me nauseous or just made my stomach hurt. Ritual prenatal vitamins are vegan certified and have no shady additives, fillers or colorants. They feel gentle and easy on my stomach while supporting the nutrient needs of my body and baby. You can try them too with their happiness guaranteed simple subscription service. Plus you can take 10% OFF your first 3 months with code: HAUTE
