Discovering Your #socialnetworth With The LSU Sororities

Happy Friday everyone! Before we jump into the weekend, I want to share my most recent social media workshop experience with you. About two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of speaking to over 450 LSU sorority girls about the power of social media and how to use it both responsibly and strategically. We had such an amazing turn out that we even had girls sitting on the floor!

I was so excited when the LSU Tri Delta chapter president, Laurel Upton reached out to me about the opportunity.  I immediately said yes and asked fashion blogger, Krystal of A Pinch of Lovely and local New Orleans beauty expert, Ashley Sievert to join me in sharing our personal experiences involving social media. We called the event ‘Discovering your #socialnetworth’ because we want all young women and girls to realize their individual worth on social media.

We made a play on words with social ‘net worth’ to ask the girls how they individually value themselves on social media. Obviously, we weren’t there to rate them. We wanted the students to rate themselves to help them decide if they need to re-eavaulate the type of the content their posting. This is vital to do because even if you aren’t seeking a career in social media, the photos and words you post online are still a reflection of who you are as a individual. The majority of employers scan your Facebook and Instagram before interviewing  you because they want to see how you openly portray yourself online and if that correlates with the type of person they want representing their company.

Once we got that point across, we mostly focused on the positive aspects of social media and what amazing things it can lead to by using it responsibly and strategically. For example, without social media my business wouldn’t even exist. And all of the amazing opportunities that I’ve experienced over these past few years would have never been possible. I created my very own dream job just by sharing what I love through social media.

If you would have told me four years ago that one day I’d design my very own handbag with a huge company in New York or that I would be working for myself, attending New York Fashion Week and collaborating with big brand names like Old Navy, Kendra Scott, H&M, Yosi Samra, Chinese Laundry, World Market and GiGi New York, I would have never believed you.

Actually, I take that back, I might have believed you because I always knew that I’d never allow myself to have a normal job, but I had no idea that it would all stem from social media. It is truly incredible what social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and now snapchat can empower you to do, and that’s why I like to share my story with young women to introduce the world of careers on social media.

Back to the designing bags part, as a way to show the girls all the wonderful things that can stem from social media, I partnered up with GiGi New York to giveaway a Jenn Bucket Bag that I designed with them last October. This was such a huge accomplishment for me so I wanted to share that with the girls by giving one away especially since the bag has already moved its way up to one of Gigi New York’s top sellers. Haute Off The Rack Home Tour

Today is the day! The official Haute Off The Rack home tour! I’m so excited to finally share my new home with you. We actually moved in this past July, but as most of you know it takes quite a while to turn your house into a home! I live in a small old cottage house in Downtown Covington, LA and when I say old, I mean that it was built in 1927! So needless to say, it’s quite the southern charmer with all its little corner nooks, chipped paint, original hardwood floors and even the original cabinets. In fact, that’s why I immediately fell in love with the place! The minute I saw the sweet front porch, closed in fireplace, all white walls and windows everywhere, I knew it was the one! Not to mention the fact that it sits on one of the most beautiful streets in Downtown Covington covered by large mossy oak trees.

Clearly, I love a pop of color hence my bright fuchsia accent chairs and printed napkins. However, I do like to balance out the amount of color with some basic neutral pieces and gold accessories.

Since Blake works for a wine company, our house is always fully stocked with boxes of wine. Eventually, I got tired of seeing all the boxes stacked up in the dining room so I decided to put together a wine rack that would beautifully display all of the wine bottles. I found these three wooden wine racks at World Market, and the two hanging glass holders and Target. I brightened up all of the wood pieces with some fresh flowers and when you’re entertaining guests you can put snacks out on the two-tiered stand that I have shown above. You can also place food on the wood bark pedestal stand too.

I like to keep my dessert seperate from the rest of the food by displaying all the treats on the bar cart. I actually just purchased a second bar cart so that I can have one for coffee and dessert and the other for liquor and bar tools, which you’ll see on the blog soon. Oh and in case you’re wondering, no, the chocolate covered almonds do not last long in my house at all. I’m pretty sure Blake finished them off the first day I got them.

One of my favorite traits of the house is that there are so many windows that you don’t even need to turn on the lights until the evening. In fact, I love the way the sun trickles into the dining and living room in the morning so much that I decided to go for sheer white curtains so that the morning light would still shine through. As for my living room color scheme, I purposely bought a white couch and neutral rug so that I could forever change the pillows and decor because that’s my favorite thing to do. In fact, I’ve already added more new pillows to the mix. Sometimes, I just have to avoid the pillow section all together while shopping. Don’t worry though! You’ll get to see the new pillows in my next home decor post.

In case you can’t tell from the photos, my house is very tiny with about 1,200 square feet of space. On top of that, there is a huge lack of storage space so we had to get creative with displaying different items that would normally be kept hidden in cabinets. I actually got this idea from one of my blogger besties, Kathleen of Carrie Bradshaw Lied. She has a small home as well so she also has to keep a lot of her kitchen appliances, cookware and dinnerware on display. We both purchased our wire kitchen racks from Target and decorated them with different accessories to dress up our kitchen supplies. Just a tip, it helps to purchase cookware and bakeware in fun colors if you have to keep in on display.

Make sure to follow along on snapchat: @HauteOffTheRack to keep up with all of my daily and seasonal changes to my home! I’m constantly changing things up! Also, keep an eye out for my next home decor post showing all of my new fall decor changes.

P.S. A HUGE thank you to my best friend Haley who helped me bring all of my decorative ideas to life. Not only does she come over and help hang every thing on the walls and rearrange my pillows, but she also does it all while putting up with me and a 1 and half year old running around the house. We’ll shop all over town in her little Toyota Corolla with the carseat in the back and shove as much stuff in there as we can. The store associates always look at us like we’re crazy when we try to fit a 5 ft bench or an 8 x 10 ft rug in there! We always find a way to make it happen though.

Cropped Sweaters + Suede Skirts

If you haven’t already noticed, I’ve become obsessed with quite a few trends this season including anything suede and button front skirts. I’ve been waiting for suede skirts to hit the fashion scene again because I love how sleek and luxe they look for fall. I went for a cozy pre-fall look here by styling the skirt with my cropped sweater from Chicwish, some lace up heels and cheetah print calf hair bag. Speaking of Chicwish, remember my last button front skirt outfit featuring a denim skirt from Chicwish–> Denim Skirts & Olive Shirts
