New Years Holiday Card Idea

Hey everyone, I hope you had a nice weekend. If you follow me on Instagram, then I’m sure you saw me frolicking all over New Orleans with Blake in a 1920s costume. I mentioned there was a fun a collaboration in the works and I was referring to our New Years holiday card/Blake’s 30th birthday party invitation that I created with Walmart. My husband is a new year’s day baby and he turns 30 this January so I am throwing him a Great Gatsby themed birthday party to help him say farewell to his 20s and hello to 30! So naturally we’re partying 1920s style!

Since we’re smack dab in the middle of the holidays, I thought it would be a cute idea to incorporate the invitation into a holiday card.  So we dressed up in our roaring 20s outfits and shot some photos in New Orleans for the holiday/invitation to get all of our guests excited for Great Gatsby costumes and to give them an idea of what to wear. I will do a separate post with full details on our costumes.

 To create the holiday card invitation, I chose Walmart’s “Happy New Year Little Snowflakes” card layout and uploaded our photo plus additional text to call out Blake’s 30 birthday on the front of the card. Then on the back, I typed up a catchy rhyme and included all of the party details. Also, I couldn’t choose which photo I liked more so I ordered two different options and figured I could send out a mix of both. Tomorrow makes exactly one month until the party and I’m leaving town for the next two weeks so I chose the “same day linen” cards and picked them up from Walmart within about two hours after creating them online. The linen cards worked out perfectly since I was on a time crunch to get these printed before leaving town, but I also highly recommend choosing their premium card stock option and having them mailed to your house. Walmart has so many cute holiday card options plus they offer same day pickup, which is super ideal when you’re trying to get your cards out quickly before it’s too late. This “Cheers” card is super cute for new years too!

What To Wear For Holiday Photos

Hey everyone, I hope you all had a nice weekend. I can’t believe we’re already in November. The holidays are officially upon us and you know what that means…holiday photos for holiday cards! Don’t worry though because I’ve got plenty of affordable outfit ideas for you from Nordstrom. As for the boys, the Nordstrom Men’s Shop has you covered there too. We of course all know how to dress ourselves, but coordinating outfits with your significant is a whole other ball game and I’m not even going to attempt to throw kids into the equation. I don’t know how mom’s do it!

Fortunately, when it comes to holidays dresses and cute skirts or tops with jeans, Nordstrom has endless options. And what’s even better is that they also carry men’s and children’s clothing too so you can find all of your outfits in one place. The Nordstrom Men’s Shop is super easy to navigate and has plenty of men’s shirts and accessories at affordable prices. That’s what I’ve been going to for Blake’s outfits this season. I just send him a few links from each category to choose from and he picks out what he wants before I place our whole order together.

What to wear for holiday photos:

1) If you don’t even know where to begin with your outfit, pick a theme or color scheme that you know you’ll both look good in and that will also go well with your shoot location. Then go to Nordstrom online and just start putting all of your favorites in your cart. Then narrow it down to the outfits you know you’ll actually wear and order them all to try on because Nordstrom offers free and super easy returns. So you might as well try all of your options.

2) Look good and feel good! Choose an outfit that you feel confident in and that looks good from all angles so that you don’t limit yourself when it comes to photo shoot poses. You’ll want your outfit to flatter you from all angles when it comes to wearing it around town anyway.

3) Pick your outfit first! Things usually run more smoothly if you choose your outfit first because it’s easier to build his outfit when we know what else we’re working with. Just be sure to choose colors and accessories for him that will complement your outfit.

4) The most important thing about his outfit is to make sure everything fits. If his clothes are too big, the the whole outfit will look sloppy and if anything is too tight on him, he’ll just feel uncomfortable the whole time. Trust me, you don’t want your guy to feel uncomfortable during a photo shoot when he’d rather be doing something else than taking Christmas photos on Saturday.

Holiday Party Style: Glam Off The Shoulder Gown

Hi everyone, now that Thanksgiving and all of the cyber madness has come to an end, we can finally start focusing on the good stuff: holiday party looks. I’m kicking off my holiday party style series with this glam off the shoulder gown from ModCloth. This stunning formal dress is perfect for a black tie wedding or a fancy holiday party. I styled the dress with plenty of jewels, a pink party bag and a lux faux fur stole to add to the glam factor of the gown. What I love most about this dress is the flattering neckline and high slit. It makes me feel so confident and luxurious like I’m in a James Bond movie! Haha! I’m serious though especially with the updo hairstyle and faux fur stole!

For size reference, I’m wearing the size 4 and I about 5’1 ft and 120 lbs. I’m a 34B and I normally wear a size small in dresses.
