If you want a fresh and daring new look to help brighten up the gloom of the winter palette, winter white is your game. Now that clothing stores are starting to receive the first round of spring shipments, the controversy over when it’s socially acceptable to wear white has commenced. I say we nix the no white from the waist down rule. White is too bold and refreshing a color to wait until Memorial Day. Besides, no one in the fashion world follows that rule in this decade. White can look chic year round as long as it’s styled correctly, and just to show you, I’ve pulled together a few outstandingly styled winter white looks.
I love this bold and eye-catching winter white look. Juley Thuy of the Upperlyne fashion blog styled her cropped white ankle pants impeccably by layering a fitted leopard print sweater over a striped blouse with a light khaki trench coat. Her mixed and matched prints give the outfit an edgy vibe while the pointy-toed shoe keeps the look classy and ladylike. A nude pointy toe shoe can also help to elongate your legs when wearing cropped pants, which is vital for petite ladies.
Abbey Brandon of the District Dress Up fashion blog looks cool and boho-chic in her white J Brand flare jeans and Aztec printed Johnny Was scarf. Her outfit almost looks monochromatic, minus the muted grey stripes on her sweater, layered over a gingham blouse. Notice how the red in the scarf really pops against the white ensemble. If you want to try an all-white monochromatic look like this, but you don’t have a colorful scarf, try breaking up the look with a plain brown belt.
Maxi skirts always look effortlessly chic, but notice how the white pleats in Brandon’s skirt add a soft feminine touch. She styled it well with a cropped white Rag and Bone jacket over a neutral turtleneck. You always want to choose a jacket that hits right at or above the waist when layering with a maxi skirt to keep from looking boxy and shapeless. I like how this jacket looks clean and polished paired with the white skirt, but if you want an edgier look, a leather moto jacket or vest would add a cool and unexpected twist. For jewelry, she kept it simple and finished off the look with a gold vintage chain necklace.
A pair of white velvet leggings is the perfect way to tone down the ruggedness of a trendy utility jacket that is paired with riding boots. Wearing a hunter green jacket with dark colored pants and boots can come off as too harsh or masculine on a woman, so adding a hint of white helps to brighten up the outfit without stealing the show.
