Good Morning readers, do you have an outfit you love so much that you literally have to force yourself not to wear it every day?  For me, this is that outfit! I could live in my mother denim flares, a comfy cream blouse, a long necklace and a pair of platform wedges.  It’s so bad that even my boyfriend asks “Are you really wearing that again today?” That doesn’t stop me though. I wear it anyway! Ha! What outfit do you wish you could wear every day?

**About the necklace: The necklace I am wearing in this post was actually custom made for me by Donna Guidry of Bijoutiere Jewelry. It is a gorgeous fire agate pendant with pearls, coin pearls and pyrite on a handmade wire chain.  If you are interested in purchasing one for yourself, please feel free to email me at Jenn.hauteofftherack@gmail.com.**

Good Morning readers, how about this stunning back necklace by Reagan Charleston Design! Is it gorgeous or what! I’m so excited to finally share this look with you because this is my first collaboration with local boutique, Haus131 and my first time wearing a back necklace. Katie Rae Bowen, the owner of Haus131 helped me pick this dress.  She did such a great job of helping me find the right dress to suit my personal style and she even did me the honor of naming it after me.  I absolutely love the color combination of this maxi and I especially love the design on the back of the dress which draws attention to the necklace.  What do you think? Would you rock a back necklace?

P.S. If you’re wondering why I’m barefoot, it’s because I didn’t wear the best shoes for climbing over fences and rocky railroad tracks and that’s what we had to go through to get to that spot.  Also,  I named this post the Lion King because that was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw these photos, not to mention that the pendant on the necklace is a lion’s head.

Good Morning readers and Happy 4th of July! I know that the 4th of July isn’t actually today, but I figured I would give Haute Off The Rack the day off tomorrow just like everyone else!

How fabulous is this striped bandage skirt by Madewell?  I thought it was the perfect piece to incorporate into my patriotic look and into my wardrobe.  This fitted striped skirt is a staple piece that you can wear all summer long and well into the fall. I personally wouldn’t wear this outfit on the actual 4th of July because I’m usually always in a pool or by the water on this holiday.  However, this is something I would consider wearing to work around Independence Day to represent my stripes.  If the red scarf is little too over the top patriotic, check out how I styled it below with the floral scarf.

P.S. Just a heads up, this is the first of many times that you will see this striped skirt!

Have a wonderful holiday everyone!

Haute Island Getaway: Day 13- Reagan Charleston Design

Good Morning readers and welcome to Day 13 of Haute Off The Rack’s Island Getaway!  Today is a special Haute Island Getaway day because we have a surprise guest on the “haute” seat!   Please welcome Haute Off The Rack’s June Fashion Feature, Reagan Charleston of Reagan Charleston Jewelry Design in Mandeville,  Louisiana. As you know, each month I feature a fellow fashion blogger, designer or local fashion icon with impeccable style and creative talents.  This month I chose to highlight one of Louisiana’s up and coming jewelry designers who not only has a talent for designing jewelry, but also has a killer sense of style.

However, I don’t think I have to convince on this one because you know a girl has got a knack for style when she can pull off wearing a $15 top from Forever 21 with a classic pair of Christian Louboutins and jewelry that she designed herself!  I especially love how she paired a cream pleated top with white linen pants for an effortlessly chic look. Most people I know would never think to pair these two colors together, but Reagan wore it flawlessly and her unique jewelry added the perfect touch.

Want to know more about the lovely Reagan Charleston?  Well, Haute Off The Rack has got you covered! I had the pleasure of visiting Reagan and her husband Jeffery at their beautiful home to chat about their three adorable pups, Bijou, Beignet, their newest rescue, Puff (a one-eyed Pomeranian) and of course what sets her apart from other designers. Here is what Reagan had to say!

haute-off-the-rack

HOTR: How long have you been designing jewelry and what motivated you to start?
Reagan Charleston: I have been designing jewelry professionally for the past 8 months, but I have been making jewelry as long as I can remember.  As a child, I would dismantle my mom’s jewelry and make new pieces.  I was repurposing before it was cool.  I was such a nerd about it, I even made my parents buy me a rock polisher when I was around 9 or 10 so I could polish my own stones to use.  I hadn’t ever considered selling my pieces, but my husband pointed out that so many people were stopping to ask me where I had purchased things I had made.  Since then it has just organically evolved.

HOTR: Were you nervous to start selling your own designs?

RC: There is a certain anxiety about creating something for others and not just for yourself.  When you design something for personal wear, you design it because you love it and you love wearing it.  When you design for others, there’s a chance still that only you will love it.  There was immediate interest in my pieces, so any anxious feelings over whether or not they would be well recieved was quelled, thank goodness!

HOTR: What is your best seller?

RC: My best sellers are currently my fresh water pearl and druzy pieces, and the sharks teeth pendant necklaces are equally as popular.

HOTR: What is the process for designing each new piece of jewelry?

RC: The first step is sourcing.  I travel all over collecting gemstones, pearls, and components from different vendors and suppliers.  Then I literally spread everything out, set out all of my tools,  poor myself a glass of wine, and start putting pieces together.  Some pieces I plan as I am sourcing, but most often I just sit down with all of my baubles and gems, and sort it out from there.  It is almost a form of meditation, I work for as long as I feel inspired.  Some days I will make a piece or two, and some days I sit down and crank out a dozen pieces without even thinking about it.

HOTR: What is the best compliment you’ve ever received from a customer?

RC: Hearing from cllients that they have never seen anything like it makes me extraordinarily happy.  I also loved when someone told me how beautiful and special she  felt when she wears my pieces.  It is so validating that something that makes me happy makes someone else happy.

HOTR: What piece are you most proud of and why?

RC: I am proud of all of my designs, but I am decidedly most proud of my 14k gold Leone pendant that I just created.  It was inspired by a lovely thing I had seen in Italy on our honeymoon.  It is my very first custom pendant from my line and my heart swells each time I see it.

HOTR: What do you think sets RCD apart from other jewelry designers?

RC: My pieces are different and unusual.  My collection has delicate qualities, but also has earthy, raw qualities. It is actually the contrast that provides the balance.  I think it is unexpected.

HOTR: What are your long-term goals for RCD?

RC: I am currently in the process of designing my precious metals and precious stones collection that I hope will be eventually carried nationally in high end department stores.  I would also like to hire a staff to help me keep up with my handmade pieces so I can expand across the gulf region in small, locally owned boutiques.

HOTR: What kind of challenges have you faced from starting your own business?

RC: When you start your own business, it is kind of unmapped.  When I started out, it was like, “Ok.  I have made all these beautiful things,  but now what?”  I’m a bit stubborn and like to figure things out for myself, but finding answers to my questions and overcoming any little bumps in the road feels that much more rewarding.

HOTR: What is your current favorite jewelry design?

RC: I am really obsessed with my Quartz Collars with the back necklaces, but I haven’t been wearing anything lately but my Leone piece.  It is my baby right now!

HOTR: What are three things that none of your customers know about you?

RC: I’m such an open book!! That’s a hard question!! 1. I am obsessed with fresh flowers! I love making flower arrangements when I’m not making jewelry.  2.  I am also a huge nerd, I’m a total book worm.  Hemingway, David Sedaris, and Augusten Burroughs are my faves.  3.  My grandparents were artists and had a copper sculpture art gallery in the French Quarter on Toulouse, so I feel like I am following in their footsteps in a way.

HOTR: If you could design a piece of jewelry for any celebrity, who would it be and what would you create for her?

RC: Oooh good question!!  I would love to design a brooch for Kate Middleton.  She always looks so flawless and classic.  I would do a very traditional piece with an edge. It would be encrusted with some precious gemstones, of course!  I would also love to do a great glamourous bohemian piece for Rihanna.  I can so see her in one of my body necklaces.  Her various looks are so much fun!

HOTR: What beauty product do you always have on hand?

RC: I feel lost without Smashbox O-gloss.  The best accessory of all is a glossy, pretty smile.

HOTR: If you could only wear one pair of shoes for the rest of the summer, which pair would you choose?

RC: If my feet could handle it, I would definitely wear my double platform nude Miss Benin’s by Christian Louboutin. Everywhere, with everything. There’s nothing like a great nude pump to elongate the leg. But since my feet would seriously shrivel up and die from being in heels 24-7, there’s nothing like a great pair of pretty flippies for summer.  You can get away with wearing them with almost anything!

HOTR: What is the one fashion item that you can’t go on a summer getaway without?

RC: Other than one of my body necklaces for lounging by the pool, a great pair of sunglasses! Hands down!

Other than the gorgeous Leone pendant that Reagan wore in these photos, these were my two favorite necklaces designed by Reagan.  Both the coral reef pendant necklace and the gold dipped shark tooth necklace are great pieces for the summer and the lion’s head necklace is something you can wear year round.
