Trust me, you need to throw a King Cake Party👑💜💚💛with your friends because you don’t need to live in Louisiana to have a little taste of Mardi Gras! Although, it definitely helps! If you decide to do it, you’re gonna want these beautiful new Mackenzie Childs Violet Check Pieces to display your king cakes.
I’ve been hosting parties with @MackenzieChilds pieces for the past decade because I love how they instantly elevate your tablescape and brighten the whole room with color.

As for the king cake party, get your friends together and order a bunch of different cakes —most places even ship! Then decorate your house with some festive decor and label each cake accordingly for everyone to try. Also, you have to serve Louisiana staples like fried chicken, jambalaya or gumbo and daiquiris.

B and I still lived in our first 100-year-old rental house together that actually doesn’t even exist anymore because they tore it down a couple of years ago. By this point I had been working in blogging/creator industry since February 2012 so I felt super secure in my unique career. So much has changed since 2016, but some things that have stayed the same…

Even though we aren’t traveling the world together anymore since our lives have evolved so much, I still stay in touch with these girls and have the best memories with them!

P.S. how cool that I designed the Jenni Saddle Bag in 2015 and then launched an elevated version called the Sophia bag this past year and it ended it ended being one of our top sellers! Just goes to show that trends always cycle back every 10 years!

Cooking isn’t one of my favorite things, but I always feel really proud of myself when it turns out how it’s supposed to. Also, even though I don’t love it, my friend @dashing_darlin convinced me that good cooking will always bring your boys back home to you. So as a proud boy mom I plan to master a few of their favorite dishes to ensure they’ll always want to visit home!

FRENCH TOAST CASSEROLE RECIPE via @thepioneerwoman
INGREDIENTS:
-Butter, for greasing & serving
-1 loaf crusty sourdough or French bread (I used brioche -bread)
-8 eggs
-2 cups whole milk
-1/2 cup heavy cream
-1/2 cup granulated sugar
-1/2 cup brown sugar
-2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
-Warm syrup, for serving
-1 cup fresh blueberries, for serving (add all the fruit you like &

TOPPING:
-1/2 cup flour
-1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
-1 tsp. cinnamon
-1/4 tsp. salt
-Freshly grated nutmeg (optional)— I didn’t do this
-1/2 cup cold butter, cut into pieces

DIRECTIONS:
1) For Casserole: Grease a 13 x 9 baking pan w/ butter. Chop/tear bread into chunks/cubes, & dump into pan. Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, & vanilla. Pour evenly over bread, cover pan tightly & store in the fridge until needed (overnight preferably). Or you can make it and bake it right away—it’s delicious no matter what! ** I tried both ways so I can confirm that truly tastes just as good both ways.
2) For Topping: In a separate bowl, use a fork to stir together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, & some nutmeg.** I didn’t add nutmeg* Add the butter and use a pastry cutter to mix it all together until the mixture resembles fine pebbles. Store in fridge.
3) To Bake: preheat oven to 350°F. Sprinkle topping over the entire casserole. **I even mixed mine a round a little. Bake for 45 minutes for a softer, bread pudding-like texture or for 1 hour or more for a firmer, crisper texture.
4) Serve with warm syrup & berries. I also added whipped cream!

Guest Blogger: Heather Chauvin of Tealou & Sweetpea

This is incredibly simple, cheap, AND awesomely patriotic. So here we go!

What you’ll need:

Jean shorts you wish you wore more often (or you can buy some jeans from Goodwill for $4 and cut them!)
Three bottles of acrylic craft paint (I used Americana from Hobby Lobby, $.99 each. I went with more of a dark red and navy instead of primaries but that’s up to you!)
Paintbrush (I used an inch wide regular art paintbrush I had lying around)
Star stencil (I used a piece of cardstock, drew a star (chinese star will work!), and then cut it out with an exacto knife on a wooden cutting board, or you can just buy one from hobby lobby)
