Wedding Wednesday: Our Proposal Story

Hi everyone, I’m so excited to write my first ever “Wedding Wednesday” post so I figured I would kick off my wedding series with our proposal story. Before I go into all the details about how he asked, allow me to take you back a few years….more like 10 years! Blake and I started dating towards the end of high school when he was a senior and I was junior. After that first year, I thought for sure that when he went off to college he would forget about me, but he didn’t! We somehow managed to stick together all of these years without ever even breaking up once. Might I remind you…10 years to be exact! LOL

I definitely did my share of time waiting, but at least Blake had an amazing plan up his sleeve. Scroll through the rest of this post to find out why it was all worth the wait!

For those of you who are new to Haute Off The Rack, I recently took an 18-day long trip to Italy and Greece in June with my boyfriend (now fiancé), a few friends and my entire family. We stayed in the most beautiful villa in Tuscany, which you can read all about here—> Our Private 20-Person Villa in Tuscany

The night before we all left for Venice, we decided to take family photos on the cliff above the pool terrace at our villa because it had the most stunning view of all the hills in Tuscany. This was the spot that we would all gather together each evening to watch the sunset with wine before dinner….

The second family photos wrapped up, Krystal (A Pinch of Lovely) and I quickly threw together the most darling picnic set up for a quick photo shoot of our maxi dresses before dinner. Blake kept trying to get us to hurry up because he wanted us to take a “quick sunset photo” together before the sun officially went down. Being the perfectionist that I am, I was in no hurry to take a “sunset photo” photo with him since we had already gotten a few photos together and because I wanted to perfect our picnic photo….

Once Krystal and I finally finished our photoshoot, I was just about to get up to take a picture with Blake when my whole family decided to crash our picnic and started doing weird things with all of the props. This of course turned into a whole other new photoshoot, but Blake kept persisting. Little did I know that he had his own agenda! I should have caught on by this point since Blake never asks to take photos together…

Finally, I stood up with my wine and handed Lainey (photographer/friend) my phone to take a “quick picture.” I didn’t even notice Blake fidgeting in his pocket for the ring while Lainey looked so confused. Then I suddenly looked over and Blake was on one knee. I don’t even remember what he said because I was so happy and excited when I realize what was happening! It almost didn’t even feel real…

Fun Fact: He had to remove my Julie Vos ring to replace it with my engagement ring!

Nope! I didn’t even spill a drop of wine!

I was so surprised! I had no clue because he had already convinced me that we would go look at rings at the end of the summer!

In case you’re wondering, we never went ring shopping together and he completely just guessed my ring size! Thankfully it fits and also I was very verbal about what kind ring I wanted so I am glad he was listening.

I was so grateful to Lainey for tossing my phone aside and capturing this moment with her camera. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful setting and moment with our friends and family. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life making Blake laugh everyday.

Make sure to to check back next Wednesday to find out how we asked our wedding party!
