The Christmas season is the perfect time to dress in your most intricate and glamorous pieces to stand out at holiday events, parties, and family gatherings. In the fashion world, we like to refer to these types of bright, attractive, and eye-catching items as statement pieces. Whether you’re a jewelry and accessory kind of girl, a denim girl, a shoe girl, or a dress girl, there is a statement piece fit for you.
If you’re all about simple clothing and accessorizing your outfits with jewelry, then you’ll love a bold collar-style necklace like the Pegasus necklace by Stella and Dot. They’re great for dressing up little black dresses and they add a fun and edgy vibe to a casual pair of jeans and a plain white tee. I recommend choosing one in a gold, bronze, or neutral color so that you can wear it more often. A vibrant-colored infinity scarf is another great statement accessory that can help pull a look together. The colorful prints really stand out against solid-colored tops and dresses.
If you’re hesitant to wear a statement necklace or a bright-colored scarf, I suggest investing in an assortment of cuffs, bangles, and bracelets for a fun and eclectic look. Also, you can’t go wrong with a pair of eye-catching sparkly earrings or a textured clutch. Clutches are always the perfect piece to complete your look.
Loyal denim girls would be crazy not to try a pair of printed or textured jeans while they’re all the rage. There are so many different prints to choose from: snakeskin, leopard, brocade, chevron, lace, Aztec, and floral. There are also several textures to consider: wax-coated, vegan leather, velvet, corduroy, and even sequin. I personally love the mix of metallic and brocade. Textured and printed denim pairs well with high-low sweaters, peplum tops, denim shirts, etc. Just have fun mixing and matching.
If you’ve got a fetish for shoes, then you absolutely have to try this season’s metallic cap toe pump trend. They’re super classy and feminine with the just the right amount of shine. Wear them with embellished skirts and dresses to parties or to work with a pair of cropped ankle pants or a pencil skirt. You can purchase a pair for only $34 at Corporate Blvd. and Perkins Rowe Frock Candy locations, or online at www.FrockCandy.com.
If you fancy tops, skirts, and dresses, this is the season to try out the peplum trend. Peplums are extremely figure flattering and add a fun and sassy vibe to your look. Pair peplum tops with fitted pencil skirts or printed pants to help play up your shape. If you’re really daring, try wearing a leather peplum top with a bright-colored maxi skirt and a belt like Abbey Brandon of the District Dress Up Fashion blog.
Abbey looks stunning in her burgundy leather peplum top from H&M paired with her mustard yellow maxi skirt. Notice how the high slits in the skirt add a dramatic look to the outfit. Photo courtesy of District Dress Up.
If the peplum trend is too much for you, go for sequin-embellished pieces like a sparkly dress or mini skirt and you’ll surely stand out. Sequins are guaranteed to make a statement.
